Purina sent a letter indicating that only a dog food (WET) was recalled. Here is his letter: ALPO ® BRAND of dog food Prime Cuts canned salsa NATIONWIDE VOLUNTARY RECALL Dry Purina Products Not involved at March 31, 2007 March 30, 2007, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company announced it is recalling all sizes and varieties of ALPO ® Prime Cuts wet dog food in the sauce with specific date codes. The Company is taking this voluntary action after learning that wheat gluten containing melamine, a substance which is not approved for use in food, was provided to Purina by the same company that also provides menu items. Pollution occurred in a limited production to only one of 17 manufacturing facilities feed Purina. Consumers should stop feeding their dogs ALPO Prime Cuts products with date codes below and consult a veterinarian if they have health problems with your pet. The recalled 13.2 oz and 22-oz ALPO Prime Cuts cans and 6 -, 8 -, 12 – and 24-can ALPO Prime Variety Pack cuts have the date code to four digits 7037 through 7053, followed by the 1159 code of the plant. These codes follow a "Best Before Feb. 2009" date. This information should be checked at the bottom of the can or the top side boxes or multi-pack. Above all, no Purina brand dry pet food affected by the recall – including ALPO Prime Cuts dry. There are other food products Purina products Purina cat food, Purina treat products or Purina Veterinary Diet products are included in this recall, nor have been affected by the source wheat gluten contaminated. At Purina, nothing is more important to us that the health and welfare of animals whose nutrition has been entrusted to us by their owners, and we deeply regret this unfortunate situation.
